Vandykes
Van Dyke is a 19th Century photographic printing process. An iron salt solution is brushed onto watercolour paper, then dried and placed in contact with a large negative. (The final image will be the same size as the negative.) It is exposed to the sun or UV lightbox and processed in further chemicals. Each image is hand-coated and therefore unique with its own characteristics. Landscapes, portraits, still life studies and images with softened contours between light and shade are well suited to this process, which has a very good tonal range.
